Schalk Bezuidenhout’s #ShowmaxAddiction

If he’s not in a thrift store buying your granny’s old jerseys, you can catch the hilarious Schalk Bezuidenhout tearing up stages across South Africa as he quickly climbs the comedy ranks.

You can check him on Showmax right now in Skerp Sterts, Beloofde Land and Schalkie. Watch now »

We caught up with Schalk to ask him super-serious questions about gatsbies, his upcoming projects and his Game of Thrones crush.

1. What’s your favourite show of all time?

I’m gonna go old school with this answer and say Desperate Housewives. I used to LOVE that kak!

(We’ve got the full boxset of Desperate Housewives Seasons 1-8 ready to go on Showmax. Watch now »)

2. In Game of Thrones, who would you marry, who would you murder and who would you bang?

I would marry, murder and bang Tyrion Lannister.

3. Who are some your favourite local and international comedians?

Locally and internationally I would say Trevor Noah at the moment. And I’m not just saying that because I was opening for him recently. And I’m not mentioning that to subtly informed you that I opened for Trevor Noah recently. He is just an absolute inspiration. I don’t think there is anyone who is churning out material like he is at the moment.

4. What are you currently binge-watching?

I’m watching Brooklyn Nine Nine, hey. I’m working my little comedy ass off at the moment, so I need something where I can just switch off.

5. Gatsby or bunny chow?

I’m trying to stay away from carbs at the moment.

6. Where do you get your amazing jerseys? And can we get a lekker one for Showmax with dragons on it?

It’s a treasure hunt man. You have to delve into the deep, dark depths of the Hospice world. Bribing the tannies at the old age home with fresh cookies also helps. The cookies they get there are stale as hell! And we can definitely have a dragon jersey made. The girl who makes my jerseys is with knitting needles like Jackie Chan is with nunchucks.

7.  Any cool projects you’re currently working on?

I’m going to London next week and doing my first international one-man show – South African White Boy. Most of the tickets have been sold, which is a lot more than I expected! So I’m pretty chuffed!

I also have a new one-man show, Jersey Boy, which I will be performing in Jo’burg, Cape Town and Durban in October. I’ve done it a few times and it’s a show I’m really proud of. I’d love for as many people as possible to see it! Including the tannies in the old age home.
