We can’t wait to watch Housekeepers
It has been a while since we’ve been excited about a new local show. In case you’ve been living under a rock (or maybe you’ve been too busy to notice), a new production titled Housekeepers is coming to Mzansi Magic today (Monday, 8 October). It’s even greater to know that the show will streaming right here on Showmax – express! How can you not celebrate this wonderful news?
Housekeepers is an exploration of the class dynamics that exist in our society.
The show, which features some of the country’s finest actors including Connie Chuime, Masasa Mbangeni and Zikhona Sodlaka, will show the lives of the wealthy as seen through the eyes of their housekeepers.
An exploration of class dynamics
In a statement, Reneilwe Sema, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net, said they’re excited to be able to tell a story of voiceless people who are often overlooked. “Yet they run the households of those with financial power and social stature. Housekeepers is an exploration of the class dynamics that exist in our society.”
He explained that as a channel, they wanted to get into unfamiliar territory which is not foreign to their audiences.
Insightful, unpredictable and honest
We caught up with Zikhona Sodlaka, who stars as Boniswa on the drama series. Describing the show to us, she said it’s “insightful, unpredictable and honest”. She said the series reveals the lengths that people would go to in order to make sure that everything is in order.
The actress, who has starred on many hit shows including Igazi, said her character is different from her. “She’s got a very specific aesthetic. Fortunately, it’s not difficult to find people like that,” she said.
And what was it like working with all these remarkable actors? “The fact that we shot [the show] quickly made the ensemble close,” Zikhona told Showmax. She added that there were tonnes of memorable moments on set.
Zikhona also had nothing but great things to say about her co-stars. Speaking about Connie, who made waves after starring on Black Panther, Zikhona said: “She’s got a giggle on standby.”
Zikhona described Thando Thabethe as gorgeous and generous.
The actors have been teasing scenes from the show for the past few weeks.

In an interview with True Love magazine, Thando, who plays Linda on the show, said this has been a journey she will forever look back on with joy.
“I worked with the best actors and actresses in SA, as well as the best directors, director of photography and production crew.”
Thando, who last appeared on our screens as Nolwazi on Generations: The Legacy, told the publication that the character forced her to reflect on her own hardships.
After watching the trailer, we have no doubt that we’ll be hooked on Housekeepers. And we’re not complaining! Stream every episode of Housekeepers on Showmax, express from the DStv broadcast.
