Veep and Big Little Lies score at SAG Awards
Last night saw the brightest and most beautiful in Hollywood gathering in LA for the annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. Last night’s awards, the 24th to be held, had a host for the first time – and Kristen Bell did not hold back!
Here are the award winners and the nominees you can find on Showmax.
Big Little Lies
Aleksander Skarsgaard won the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries award.
Nicole Kidman won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries for her role as Celeste Wright.
(Also nominated in this category were their fellow Big Little Lies cast members Laura Dern, who plays Renata Klein, and Reese Witherspoon, who plays Madeline MacKenzie.)
This thrilling HBO miniseries about murder, rivalries, money, petty feuds and massive jealousy is available to binge on Showmax.
Veep
Pretty much the entire cast took the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for the second year running.
(Previous winners of this award include Sex and the City – 2001 and 2003. The full boxset of this beloved series are on Showmax.)
Julia Louis-Dreyfus also took the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role as Selina Meyer for the third time. (She also won it for her role as Elaine in Seinfeld, in 1996 and 1997, so she’s something of a veteran winner of this award!)
Seasons 1 to 6 of HBO’s Veep are on Showmax.
Game of Thrones
The seventh season of HBO’s long-running epic fantasy series took home the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series.
Watch Season 7 on Showmax to find out why (and then start at the very beginning again – all seasons of Game of Thrones are on Showmax.)
Game of Thrones was also nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series this year, though it was pipped at the post by This Is Us. The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, both on Showmax, had more luck in previous years, each taking home this award at least twice.
Anthony Anderson of Black-ish (Seasons 1-2 are on Showmax) was also nominated in this category.
Plus…
The Handmaid’s Tale was nominated for two awards – Elisabeth Moss, for her role as Offred/June Osbourne, was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series; and, alongside Game of Thrones (full boxset on Showmax), was also nominated for the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series award. Don’t miss the launch of the full series of this harrowing story about a woman who’s become an enslaved walking womb in a dystopian version of the United States, based on the 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood.
