The Real Housewives of Johannesburg are all polished up

Don’t worry about all those crazies overseas – if you want to know what it’s like being a blinged-up, designer clothes-wearing, luxury car-driving “housewife” in Mzansi, we’ve got the perfect show: The Real Housewives of Johannesburg (stream season 1 here on Showmax). It’s from the same franchise as The Real Housewives of Orange County (2006-current), Atlanta (2008-current), Miami (2011-2013) and loads more. So expect drama, champagne and a whole lot of fabulous lunches and brunches with the ladies instead of hours slaving away behind the stove cooking family dinners and helping with homework.

Did we mention drama? Because it’s more like dah-rah-mah! Check it out: even a light-hearted fun lunch turns into a simmering catfight when Evodia reveals, “The problem, she keeps saying ‘hey’ and she’s bumping me and doing all these things. I don’t like people touching me. She must just calm down.” And Evodia isn’t done there – watch her put Christall in her place for badmouthing her house and her personally. “If you’re going to say something, say it about your music!” Awkies!

So who are the Housewives and what do you need to know? Grab a glass of wine – the ish is about to get Real on your screen!

Evodia Mogase

“There can only be one queen in a beehive – that’s me. Don’t address me by any name: it’s ‘Madame’ to you”

Madame quit teaching to make a fortune in the catering business. And she knows all about eating right – she lectures the other wives on which fruit and veg is the best after breaking a sweat in the gym.

Naledi Willers

“There’s two sides for me: black or white, no grey areas. You’d better come correct.”

Don’t mistake Naledi for a bimbo – yes, she’s a former beauty queen, but she’s studying law and knows how to put people in their places when they overstep the mark. Feisty is an understatement.

Brinnette Seopela

“I’ve got a beautiful heart, a beautiful smile and a beautiful life. I had to endure a lot to get here.”

Brinnette spends her days in the spa – literally. She runs an upmarket pamper spot loved by Jozi’s rich and fabulous. She never has a hair out of place and her mani and pedi are perfect all the time.

Lendy Ter-Mors

“I’ve travelled the world. I’ve got a beautiful home. I love to laugh. Money chose me.”

That British accent is hard to miss but the Mzansi-born wife is back to smash holes-in-ones on the golf course. Because that’s where you’ll find her when she’s not throwing lavish dinner parties for the who’s who in Joburg. Girl got game!

Christall Kay

“I worked really hard and sacrificed a lot for my dream home. I am wonder woman!”

She’s done it all: worked as a lawyer, walked the runway as a fashion model and she’s done TV commercials. Now though Christall is all about performing behind the microphone as a singer and wining and dining like a true Housewife.

Mercy Mogase

“My body is my temple. I take care of it. I live the life of a goddess and it’s very important I look like one.”

Mercy is Evodia’s “baby girl” and the youngest of the Housewives… but every bit as glam. In-between her daily workouts, she’s also a health brand ambassador and motivational speaker who gets heads turning.

Binge all the drama so far on Showmax.
