Here are this week’s stories. Showmax subscribers living overseas get every episode of Carte Blanche express from the M-Net broadcast.

Forced Child Marriages

Research shows that as many as 90,000 girls between 12 and 17 years old in rural South Africa, are being forced into marriage with older men. Likening it to abduction and kidnapping, the Commission on Gender Equality says this should be outlawed, but the perpetrators argue that it’s an age old tradition. Carte Blanche investigates. Shakespeare in Hillbrow

In a small dusty basement under the Hillbrow Theatre and with little more than the clothes they own, men who were all once homeless and destitute gather to recite the words of one of England’s most famous playwrights – William Shakespeare. The brainchild of celebrated South African actress Dorothy Anne Gould, “Johannesburg Awakening Minds” has been giving the men a new home in the world of the performing arts, allowing theatre to transform their lives. Judgement Day: Krugersdorp Killers Convicted

Guilty as charged – in what the judge called a religious scam, manipulation and deadly deceit convinced a Krugersdorp mother and her teenaged children they were killing for God. In a Carte Blanche exclusive we meet the investigating officer who cracked the case of the notorious Krugersdorp Killers. Together with the seasoned detective we revisit the crime scenes, examine the forensics and find out how he secured the six convictions that were handed down by Judge Francis in the Gauteng High Court this week. In a television first, we also bring you never-before-seen footage of the arrests, and finally speak to victims’ families who have waited more than three years for justice. Flamingos Released

It’s been months since over 1600 lesser flamingo chicks were rescued from Kamfers Dam in Kimberley after the dam dried up, leaving hundreds abandoned and starving. Volunteers from around the country banded together to collect the newly hatched chicks, taking them to the local SPCA where they were fed and checked by a vet. Now, as they continue to recover, some baby flamingos are being released back into their natural habitat. (Producer: Sasha Schwendenwein; Presenter: Claire Mawisa) Watch now »
