Is’thunzi actors get a taste of Hollywood

Don’t you just love it when local stars get international roles?

We certainly do, and we couldn’t be prouder of Bohang Moeko, who has scored a gig on National Geographic series The Hot Zone. The actor, who features on Is’thunzi and Housekeepers, plays a doctor on the show and will star alongside well-known faces including The Good Wife actress Julianna Margulies.

Speaking to TshisaLive, Bohang said that he was excited and happy when he was told that he got the role. “I had auditioned a few times actually and I initially wasn’t auditioning for the role of the doctor. It’s exciting because it has always been a goal for me to go into the international space.”

He added that although he had a short stint on the show, he got a taste and now wants more.

He told the publication: “This for me is a step in the right direction for the goals I had set for myself. It really is a big deal for me…”

Bohang is not the only local star making a mark internationally. Just a few weeks ago, we learned that Is’thunzi lead actress Thuso Mbedu had landed a lead role in an American series which will be showing on Amazon.

The series, which is based on Colson Whitehead’s book The Underground Railroad, is directed by Barry Jenkins, an American film producer and screenwriter. Jenkins also directed the Oscar-winning movie Moonlight.

The International Emmy-nominated star shared the exciting news on social media and told fans: “It was such an amazing process and experience. Like, true story, just preparing to audition for this role made me grow so much.”

We are so proud of these young actors. Not only are they showing that hard work pays off, but they’re also inspiring us to pursue our dreams. You can watch both Thuso and Bohang on Is’thunzi on Showmax. You can also catch Bohang on Housekeepers, which is also available.
