In Hollywood and in the world of celebrities, it’s sort of an unwritten rule that stars give birth to stars. And while some parents may struggle to shape their children and get them to follow in their footsteps, for these famous actors, acting runs in the family. You can find them all on Showmax.
1. Alexander Skarsgård: Big Little Lies, True Blood
The tall hunk that is Alexandar Skarsgård – popularly known for his role as the vampire Eric in True Blood and as Nicole Kidman’s abusive husband Perry Wright in Big Little Lies – is the son of actor Stellan Skarsgård, who you’ll recognise from movies like Mamma Mia and Pirates of the Caribbean. And these two are not even the only actors in the Skarsgård clan – ever heard of Gustaf (Vikings, Westworld), Bill (It, Deadpool 2) or Valter Skarsgård? You are welcome. Find Alexandar Skarsgård in True Blood and Big Little Lies, both on Showmax.
2. Miley Cyrus: Hannah Montana
Aren’t we all glad that Miley Cyrus is past her VMA twerking phase and the bad girl alter ego that came right after? Boy, wasn’t she a wrecking ball. The world may never get Hannah Montana back but at least Miley spends most of her time these days hanging out with hotshot boyfriend Liam Hemsworth and singing duets with her rockstar father Billy Ray Cyrus. Catch Miley in her younger days as Hannah Montana on Showmax.
3. John David Washington: Ballers
John David Washington has never been one to ride on his father’s fame, so much so, that many (if we can use Instagram as a source) are still shocked to find out that the Ballers star is Denzel Washington’s son.
4. Angelina Jolie: Lara Croft, Wanted
It’s confirmed guys, Angelina Jolie is making a comeback to the big screen after four years. The daughter of veteran actor and TV’s classic bad guy Jon Voight (Ray Donovan) is set to star alongside British actor David Oyelowo in the movie Come Away. And, although the father and daughter haven’t always had the best relationship until recently, Jolie even appears with her father in the movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider streaming on Showmax. Also find Jolie in action thriller Wanted on Showmax.
5. Colin Hanks: Fargo, S1
We know it’s the genes but it’s still mind-blowing to look at Colin Hanks and realise that he’s the spitting image of his father. I’m still waiting for a movie where these two play a younger and older version of each other – that would be the easiest casting in the universe. Make it happen, Hollywood. In the meantime, catch Colin as Officer Gus Grimly in Season 1 of Fargo, streaming on Showmax.
6. Dakota Johnson: Beastly
Dakota Johnson, best known for her role as the reluctant submissive Anastacia Steele in Fifty Shades is the daughter to Hollywood royalty Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson (Don plays Hap Briggs in Blood and Oil). Catch Dakota Johnson on Showmax in Beastly, a modern-day Beauty and the Beast.

A member of Hollywood’s royalty made largely of actors, Drew Barrymore has been acting professionally since she was five. She comes from a long line of actors, most notably her grandfather John Barrymore who was considered one of the top Shakespearean actors of his time. Her father also worked in the business, but never managed to achieve the same levels of success as John Barrymore. Drew’s mother also dabbled in acting and became Drew’s manager early on in life, using her daughter’s fame to fuel a crazy social life. Drew was legally emancipated from her mom at age 14.
